Communication is key

Yesterday was one of the worst days for the US stock market in the last fifty years. You’ve already seen all the charts and read all the superlatives. It was one for the ages.
I’ve spent most of the week checking in with our advisors as they work with their clients and the stories I am hearing about these conversations have been incredibly inspiring. Younger investors are asking about how they can get more money into their accounts. Retired investors are repeating our philosophy and investing mantras back to us. Important conversations are taking place and my research team, led by Michael, Ben and Callie, are out in full force supporting these efforts.
In times like these, all you can do is remind people about why we diversify, why we believe in both strategic and tactical asset allocation and why they’re taking risk in the first place. I’ve been in this business for 28 years. It’s always different but it’s always the same.
Tactical Shift
I spoke to my friend Dan Nathan this week and talked a bit about what we’re doing for clients and how we’re managing money in this environment. Earlier in the week our tactical model, Goaltender, made its first shift into lower risk since October of 2023. We’re not rooting for continued volatility to validate this decision. We’re just doing our job in recognizing that the predominant trend has changed.

And of course, if you’d like to talk to one of my Certified Financial Planners about your own situation, we are standing by. Tell us what’s going on here.
The World According to Joe Lonsdale
Huge thanks to Joe Lonsdale and Jacob Miller for coming by to talk about the Trump agenda for America and where is agreements and disagreements are. We also talked AI investing, innovative startups you may not have heard about, the rise of alternatives in the wealth channel and so much more. If you missed it, watch below or check it out on the TCAF podcast feed.
Robinhood

Lastly, we welcome Robinhood’s Chief Brokerage Officer and my old friend Steve Quirk to the Compound today. Steve sat in with us during the market close last night and we had a wide-ranging discussion about next generation investors, leveraged ETFs, Robinhood’s ambitions in the wealth management channel, the tariff-related bloodbath and more.
