We're Talking to Owners

What’s your excuse now?

Investors can now embrace bitcoin's outsized upside potential while protecting 100%, 90% & 80% of the downside (for one year) through Calamos' risk management.

Al Michaels

I have to admit, this was way too much fun. Moodys Corp (MCO) popped up on my list of the Best Stocks in the Market and I thought the impending breakout was too juicy to ignore. So I pitched it to the world’s greatest sports broadcaster, Mr. Al Michaels, in front of the whole country, no big deal.

People who know me know that these are the types of setups I love - strong company with great fundamentals breaking through a previous level of resistance, not yet overbought (RSI) and in the best performing sector (S&P financials) - it might be a trap it’s so custom-made for me. I don’t own the stock yet, earnings are next week, we’ll see.

You can watch me pitch it Long Island-style below:

David Adelman’s Bet

David Adelman was 12 years old, shooting hoops in the driveway of his suburban Philadelphia home, when a family friend dropped by to visit. David foolishly challenged the man to a game of one on one, wagering all his other sporting equipment that he’d win.

He lost.

But the man let David earn his stuff back by cleaning up an apartment building he owned. That lesson led to opportunity - the chance to learn the ins and outs of the real estate business as a teenager. Eventually, David becomes the CEO of a growing portfolio of college campus apartments. This will lead to a multi-billion enterprise that eventually lands David in the owner’s box of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Ownership

These are the stories of entrepreneurship and the lessons they don’t teach in school. I’ve created a new YouTube channel called Ownership by Ritholtz Wealth Management to tell these stories and share these lessons as relayed by some of the most experienced, successful and interesting founders and leaders out there. Whether you’ve started a business, you’re the employee-shareholder of a company or you’re an executive making decisions on your shareholders’ behalf, Ownership is the channel for you.

I’ll also be bringing our in-house experts into the conversation as we answer your questions and help you solve problems unique to the ownership class. You might be sitting on stock in a startup and wondering how to maximize your potential return. You might be involved in a real estate transaction and you’re unsure of what the tax situation might be. Maybe you’re the leader of a small business that is starting to become a large one. Maybe the company you work for is offering you an employee stock purchase plan. You might not yet be an owner but you’re considering a career opportunity that would potentially lead to that. In any of these cases, we got you.

We’re going to step away from the moves in the stock market with this channel and go deeper into the issues that affect the owners of assets every day.

On our first episode, I brought in my colleague Joey Fishman to talk about the advice we are giving to Nvidia employees who have become multi-millionaires as the stock has become the largest publicly traded company in the world.

David Adelman stopped by for episode two and shared some of the most important stories from his entrepreneurial journey.

In 2025, I’ll be building out both Ownership and the Unlock channel for financial advisors to complement the runaway success of The Compound. Our never-ending mission to make our audience wealthier, wiser and to have some fun in the process continues. I hope you’ll subscribe to the Ownership channel and learn right alongside us!

Nick and Jessica return

Speaking of The Compound, this week we welcomed back DataTrek’s Nick and Jessica, who shared their framework for how to avoid reacting to negative market catalysts. You can watch it below or listen to them on the podcast version here.

That’s it from me, talk soon!
